perimeter shooting
Sochan is a modern, rangy wing. Standing at 6 ft 9 with a reported seven-foot wingspan, Sochan has proven to be a nightmarish defender for opposing teams. Seemingly aware at all times, he rarely misses a rotation, forcing the opponent to throw up a tough shot or to reset offensively. To complement his off-ball defense, when he’s switched onto the perimeter, he uses his length, size, and quickness well to mirror and frustrate opposing players, accumulating steals and blocks in the process.
On the offensive side, Sochan handled a low-usage role for Baylor. He mostly found himself in spot-up situations and while he didn’t shoot the ball too well (29.6%), he shot it enough (2.7/game, 6.3/100) to keep college defenses honest and showed the ability to attack closeouts relatively well and knock down the occasional catch and shoot 3. Sochan’s handle isn’t great yet (though it’s pretty good for his size), limiting him on drives, but he has had several intriguing flashes of ball-handling, long-strided drives, and touch on short-midrange shots. In fact, Sochan ranked in the 65th percentile as a short midrange shooter per Synergy, averaging 0.842 PPP. He also finished well around the basket, ranking in the 92nd percentile on 1.418 PPP. As a passer, Sochan showed the ability to make simple reads, as well as some more impressive outlet passes after a rebound.
